'Khan' or 'My Name Is Khan'?...Karan Johar confirms!

So what is Karan Johar's next venture called? Is it 'King Khan'? Or is it 'Khan'? Or has it been re-titled 'My Name Is Khan'? Reports in the media suggest it’s called 'My Name Is Khan'. In fact, Karan is breaking away from the ‘K’ factor this time [all his films start with the alphabet ‘K’].

“I haven’t zeroed on any title yet,” Karan confides, “It could be 'My Name Is Khan' or just 'Khan'. But it’s not 'King Khan'. Where did that one come from?” Reportedly, the film is based on terrorism. “It’s not! That’s another rumour. There’s no terrorism angle in my film. Yes, there’s a mention of the 9/11 episode, but nothing beyond that,” he clears the air.


The film has been delayed slightly. It was expected to start before the year came to a close, but will now roll in second quarter of 2008 and will hit the screens in April 2009. And yes, the film teams the golden combo – SRK and Kajol – after a hiatus. “I can’t confirm on Kajol’s presence till I talk to her. I’ve shifted my film ahead and need to sit with her on the fresh dates,” Karan reveals.


Meanwhile, Karan has started work on the animation version of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', called 'Koochie Koochie Hota Hai'. Also, the Tarun Mansukhani-directed film, starring Abhishek, Priyanka and John, is expected to roll shortly.

Nothing much for today. I was unable to find something new on "My Name Is Khan" so no gossips for today...But i do found one unpopular and unfamiliar snap of Shahrukh Khan. I don't know anything about this picture but i found it very amusing as SRK is very young and naughty... SRK ditched Hirani and Shankar for pal KJo's "My Name Is Khan"

Shah Rukh Khan decided not to be part of the two films he had verbally committed to so that he can do close pal, Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan.

The King Khan had claimed he is jobless for next eight months as he is neither doing the Rajkumar Hirani film nor the sci-fi thriller, Robot to be directed by Sivaji maker, Shankar. He cited creative differences for parting with Shankar and it was reported that Vidhu Vinod Chopra's accusations had made him leave the Hirani film.

Earlier there was a strong buzz that Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan would be starting in May end with a shooting stint in the US where the film is based. But our sources inform, "The film has actually been pushed forward with principle photography beginning in December end. Karan wants to capture the US winter as it is a part of the script. SRK's equation with close pal KJo is legendary and any given time his first preference for a film project would be Karan. This film also brings back Kajol opposite him after a gap of over 6 years so the King Khan's preference needs no more reasoning."

Another reliable source informs, "Karan has been making frequent trips to the US for determining the look of the film amongst other things. Presently discussions over Shah Rukh and Kajol's look in the film and the costumes are in the final stages with everything else almost finalized. Such a phase for a film nowadays generally comes when the film is just about to begin. Had it been a May end start it would have been too early to arrive at this stage."

The Om Shanti Om star has often been accused of playing it safe by preferring to work only with his close circle of filmmakers that includes the Chopras and Karan Johar. While he had often refuted these accusations this latest example proves otherwise. He had the perfect opportunity this time with very unlike Shah Rukh Khan roles in Rajkumar Hirani's film based on Chetan Bhagat's best selling novel, Five Point Someone and Shankar's Robot but he seems to have wasted it.

The Karan Johar film, My Name Is Khan is about how people with Muslim names are viewed with suspicion internationally after the terror attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. SRK is extremely excited about this project and has been equating his personal experiences as a Muslim traveller abroad with the film's subject.

The film is based on terrorism and its after-effects on an NRI Muslim couple (ShahRukh Khan, Kajol). Reports suggest that Aamir Khan will play himself in a 1 minute scene in which he is seen at a memorial ceremony for victims of terrorism.

Karan Johar is no stranger to getting celebrities to cameo in his movies, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna saw hot American model Saira Khan playing Abhishek Bachchan’s wife in the latter part of the movie. While it's a safely guarded secret that the Johar camp has been trying hard not to leak out, murmurs from the Devgun household have sent strong signals of the unconventional bahu doing not one but three projects, her husband's home production, You. Me and Hum Raj Kumar Santoshi's Ramayana and Karan Johar's untitled venture.

That's quite a handful for this full time mother and now part time actor.

My Name Is Khan - KJo’s next with SRK & Kajol

After KANK, Karan Johar is once again back on director’s seat. Though, highly criticized for his last movie, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna for preaching infelditiy, KJo (yes, he is not any more known as Karan) seems to finally got out from the criticism web. He has just finalized the working title for his new movie - Khan which deals with social issues and terrorism. Well, finally he seems to be growing and making some sensible movies.

No points for guessing the actor though. His family, brother, love or whatever he calls, the lead will be played by Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh Khan will be seen is totally new getup of “KHAN”. As the movie deals with social problems faced by NRIs & Pakistani people living in US/UK, SRK will be given totally new looking. No more those candy floss love stricken or love craving looks. As reported, KJo (aren’t you still used to it ?) is making rounds of various NRI communities, NGOs in New York doing heavy research upon the subject.

The movie will also hold the terrorism plots and its aftermath both upon the victims and the terrorist family & community. As usual, the movie will be shot mostly in New York and London.

Now the best part, after making numerous rounds and lots of story sessions, KJo has finally got his favorite actress Kajol too onboard. So after K3G, once again we will be seeing SRK & Kajol sharing same screen space (not just blink & miss scenes).

Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan first starred together in the romantic family drama Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), a film that was so successful it continues to run uninterrupted till date in a theater in Mumbai! Their last film together Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam (2001), produced and directed by Karan Johar, was a huge success too.

Kajol is currently working on U, Me Aur Hum in which she is paired opposite her husband Ajay Devgan, who is also the director. In addition she has signed up for Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Ramayan. A few days earlier she had told Times of India that she would not sign any more films.

“I can’t handle any more assignments at the same time,” she said. According to a source, the dusky 31-year-old found it hard to turn down Karan Johar with whom she enjoys an excellent professional rapport. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says his next film will look at discrimination faced by Muslims after the September 11, 2001, terror attacks in the United States.

Khan, who like many prominent stars in the Indian film industry is Muslim, has faced extra scrutiny after the 2001 attacks in the United States.

"If you travel internationally with a Muslim surname, you might be considered as a terrorist," Khan told Wednesday's DNA newspaper.

"At London airport, every time I go, people recognise me but they see my second name and they give me an extra checking," said the star, who is known for his successful romantic comedies.

Khan said he had experienced greater religious discrimination abroad, though India, which is majority Hindu but home to 140 million Muslims, sees regular sectarian violence.

"There is no difference between a Khan and a Kumar surname here but internationally it makes a difference," he said, referring to a common Hindu surname.

The film will be titled, "My Name is Khan," and it will be directed by Khan's friend, Karan Johar.

Shooting was expected to begin early next year and the film to be released in the summer.
